Arrows, City in six-goal thriller

Dec 01, 2016 @ 09:19:09

Golden Arrows and Polokwane City played to a 3-3 draw in an Absa Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Wednesday evening.

As a result Abafana Bes'thende moved up to fourth on the league table, while Rise and Shine remain seventh on the standings.

Both teams were looking for an opportunity to control the match in the opening stages of the encounter, while sharing possession evenly.

In the 18th minute, City duo Thabiso Semenya and Rodney Ramagalela combined nicely near the Arrows box, but the defence intercepted the ball and cleared from danger.

Arrows goalkeeper Maximilian Mbaeva was tested seven minutes later when a superb cross was played into the box and the Namibia international gathered it with ease.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 32nd minute by Arrows winger Wayde Jooste, who slotted home following a great move by Abafana Bes'thende.

However, the lead only lasted for four minutes with Rodney Ramagalela finishing a cross from the left flank.

It was end-to-end stuff as Lerato Lamola restored Arrows' lead in the 41st minute with a good strike from an acute angle, much to the delight of the home crowd.

But on the stroke of halftime, Ramagalela set up Thobani Mncwango, who leveled matters for Polokwane with a rising header just before the interval.

Polokwane nearly scored five minutes into the second half, but Edgar Manaka's effort was blocked by Arrows substitute keeper Nkosingiphile Gumede.

Rise and Shine shot-stopper George Chigova was called into action on the hour-mark as he denied Arrows defender Trevor Mathiane.

The visitors took the lead for the first time with 14 minutes left on the clock through Jabulani Maluleke, who scored with his left foot to make it 3-2 to Polokwane.

However, Nduduzo Sibiya had some other ideas as he snatched a late equaliser for Arrows in 86th minute, with a decent finish as the match ended in a 3-3 stalemate.
